This is where the sea and its shores are stopped abruptly by brute concrete and the pristine coastline is transformed into a prestigious urban asset, where city dwellers walk confidently enjoying their city’s most prominent view. But the narrow and seemingly serene border is in fact a battlefield. It is where a fearsome struggle takes place between the urban city, which aims to gain control of any available piece of land, and nature, which is constantly being civilized and transformed, shrinking all the while.

The fifteen works In the Video Marina exhibition displayed in the north end of the Bat Yam promenade attempt to examine the human desire to take control of the environment, a desire that knows no bounds and is not sated by the conquest of nature. They portray the cold urban city, describe the process of crushing the individual’s feelings, examine the cynical use of the animal kingdom by modern man and critique the aggressive encroachment of the wealthy and powerful upon the natural resources that belong to us all.

Choosing to display these video works as an outdoor exhibition and to become a part of the bustling urban life along the promenade is part of the belief that art’s place id not only within museums and designated exhibition spaces. When art is integrated with the heart of the city, the spectators do not consciously choose to enter a closed space and look at the artwork. Instead, the spontaneous dialogue created is thought- provoking, offering a sweeping experience of escapism together with a profound critical commentary.

Group exhibition with the artists: Sigalit Landau, Shahar Marcus, Talia Keinan, Jan Tichy, Ran Slavin, Guy Goldstein, Gilad Ratman, Lee Yanor, Lior Shvil, David Behar, Shay Id Alony, Boaz Aharonovitch, Meir Tati, Nira Pereg, Sharon Glazberg

[84,86
post-3864","exhibition","type-exhibition","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","tag-art-en","tag-86
["GET
