Sholem Asch House

Sholem Asch House

Sholem Asch House has been a cultural and literary center in Bat Yam since 1962. The house was planned and designed by Sholem Asch, one of the luminaries of Yiddish literature in the 20th century, who lived in it from his immigration to Israel in 1955 to his death in 1957. Over the last 50 years, the house hosted numerous lectures, literary evenings, concerts, and shows.

We offer guided tours of Asch’s collections (which include rare books, Judaica artifacts, and original artworks by Marc Chagall, Edgar Degas, Maurycy Gottlieb, Amedeo Modigliani, and others), literary events that highlight forgotten cultures and languages, and first-rate writing workshops for adults and teens.

In 2020 we launched a residency program at the Sholem Asch House, which invites artists and writers to work on art and literature projects in Bat Yam. During their time with us, the residents hold public events and carry out different collaborations with the residents of the surrounding neighborhoods.
