Ryback House

In the museum we display art; In Rybak House we make art.

The City Studio at the Rybak House offers excellent art classes for children and adult learners, as well as a space for unstructured creative work that serves children, teens, and adults living in the area. The studio operates in the spirit of renowned Jewish painter Issachar Ber Ryback’s simultaneous commitment to artistic innovation and the community.

Ryback House was built in the 1960s, when it served as the only museum in the world dedicated to the art of the prominent Jewish painter Issachar Ber Ryback as well as the private residence of the painter’s widow, Sonia Ryback. Like the building of the Bat Yam Museum of Art, Ryback House was also planned in the Brutalist style by the office of architect Yitzhak Perlstein.

In the coming years, alongside its activity as an art education center, the house will return to its original function as a museum displaying the world’s largest collection of Issachar Ber Ryback artworks. In addition to the permanent display, the museum will also host temporary contemporary art exhibitions that shed new light on the Ryback collection from a contemporary perspective.

The Museum Education Department

Our education department focuses on developing new ways to bring children and teens closer to contemporary art. We believe that contemporary art can give children and teens significant tools for life. It can help develop their creative ability, visual sensibility, and independent thought skills, as well as vocabulary and the confidence and tools to participate and engage in a vibrant discussion in a group setting.

In addition to excellent art workshops for children, we also develop and lead unique workshops for school art teachers. In these workshops, held in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, we provide teachers with the tools for using visual art as an ideal complementary aid to language learning, expanding the students’ vocabulary, developing independent thought, and improving their verbal skills.
